A dystopian fantasy-thriller and the fresco of a tumultuous night: two audiovisual projects at the 80th Venice International Film Festival are linked to the Academy. On August 30, there will be the world premiere of "Nina dei Lupi", a feature film based on the book of the same name by Alessandro Bertante (Course Leader of the Bachelor of Arts in Film and Animation). On September 6, "Pinoquo", NABA alumnus Federico Dematté's thesis project, will be on the big screen. It will compete in the SIC@SIC section of the Settimana Internazionale della Critica. The same authors will also participate in the talk "Riflessioni fra formazione, ricerca e autorialità" ("Considerations about education, research and authorship"), one of the initiatives that will involve NABA during the festival.
"Nina dei Lupi" and "Pinoquo": the synopsis
Directed by Antonio Pisu, the "Nina dei Lupi" world premiere in Venice will be the special screening opening the Giornate degli Autori. Alessandro Bertante's novel and its film adaptation portray the catastrophic condition after a sudden solar storm. The extreme atmospheric event makes electronic devices useless. So, civilisation comes to be affected by a severe scarcity of resources, and the law of the jungle rules the world.
After winning the Best Short and Best Director with the short film "Inchei" when he was a student at NABA, Federico Dematté will compete in the SIC@SIC section once again. Produced by Nieminem e Premiere Film, his thesis project of the BA in Film and Animation link, "Pinoquo", tells about a tumultuous night. Two groups of teenagers face each other in an empty school. They burst into the building to make graffiti. Here, they unleash all their turmoil in the corridors amid betrayals and violence.
