NABA is proud to announce that “Maieti,” the thesis project by Daniele Caruso and Matteo Boscolo Gioachina, alumni of the BA in Film and Animation, has been awarded the Best Short Film ONDE CORTE – PANORAMA ITALIA at Alice nella Città, an independent and parallel section of the Rome Film Festival focused on debuts, talent, and new generations.
“Maieti”: Addressing Cultural Gaps at Alice nella Città
“Maieti” tells the story of Miriam, a second-generation Egyptian-Coptic girl living with her mother and sisters in Milan. Like them, she bears a small cross tattooed on her wrist: this tattoo, a marker of her cultural identity, becomes a symbol of her burden. The protagonist attempts to escape her responsibilities while seeking her own identity within her group of friends. The project, supervised by NABA lecturers Marianna Schivardi and Saverio Pesapane, involved the participation of NABA students from the BA in Film and Animation and the BA in Set Design. “Maieti” is distributed by Premiere Film.
Sincere thanks are extended to the Alice nella Città event and its jury - comprising Tim Redford (Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival), Giulia Steigerwalt (director and screenwriter), and Joy Monteiro (producer) - for the significant accolade bestowed upon Daniele Caruso and Matteo Boscolo Gioachina.
