NABA for the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici: ongoing collaborations

The collaboration between NABA and the French Academy in Rome - Villa Medici continues. In addition to the talk “POP UP. Riflessioni su progetti e interventi di design temporaneo nel contesto urbano”, conceived by NABA to present four project experiences with a strong civic impact within the framework of the Festival des Cabanes, the students of NABA's Rome Campus have curated a mediation program for the exhibition of the French Academy in Rome scholarship holders. They will also be involved in mediation and support activities as part of the prestigious initiative, the Villa Medici Film Festival, which will take place in September 2024.

NABA for the French Academy - Villa Medici: mediation program for the “A più voci” exhibition

The exhibition project of the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici scholarship holders, titled “A più voci”, has involved second-year students from both the Italian and English classes of the MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies at NABA's Rome Campus for the second consecutive year. Following a series of visits to the studios of the resident scholarship holders and through meetings with the curatorial collective IUNO (comprising Cecilia Canziani, Ilaria Gianni, and Giulia Gaibisso), the students were able to delve deeper into the final exhibition project and subsequently devised a mediation program.

The exhibition, inaugurated on June 8 and open until September 8, 2024, showcases the diversity of artistic practices represented by the resident scholarship holders at Villa Medici: from literature to sound creation, sculpture, heritage restoration, architecture, photography, and video. From the wide range of projects created by the sixteen scholarship holders, several recurring themes emerge: the plant world, the body and its transformations, forms of resistance, the dialectic between exterior and interior, and the figure of Rome, both real and imagined.

Joana Amil Manso Matos Da Cruz, Theresa Brost, Majd El Roumi Baradie, Giulia Fiore, Dalija Kaukenaite, and Carlota Rel Llombart are the NABA students who participated in the project.

NABA for the French Academy - Villa Medici: the Film Festival

For the second consecutive year, second-year students of the BA in Film and Animation at the NABA Campus in Rome will be involved in mediation and support activities for the prestigious Villa Medici Film Festival, which will return for its fourth edition from September 11 to 15, 2024. Founded in 2021, the Villa Medici Film Festival is dedicated to artists and filmmakers exploring contemporary practices of moving images. For five days, Villa Medici will come alive with three major events: screenings of International Competition films, Focus screenings, and outdoor nighttime cinema in the gardens.

The NABA students taking part in the project are: Chloe Davis, Giorgia Di Nanni, Alessandro Fiorillo, Noemi Greco, Francesca Romeo, Antonio Santulli, Maira Tersigni.
