The Programme: overview

The MA explores the complexity of a world managed and interpreted by analogical tools, such as videocameras and microphones, as weel as by digital ones, such as big data and machine learning, through the creative expression of experimental media and new technologies. The programme lays the foundations to find innovative artistic and expressive ways of restoring reality to audiovisual productions, by the use of documentary, creative coding, X-reality.

 

Over the MA, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Identify the languages of new technologies and understand how to best apply them
  • Understand the new technologies creative processes and manage complex projects in which technology and creativity fuel each other
  • Implement creative proposals on different media
STUDY PLAN
<p>The Master of Arts allows students to deepen their knowledge and skills through specialised and advanced studies and to acquire the instruments necessary to develop projects in the contemporary audio-visual and multi-media field, through a practical workshop approach.</p> <p>Analysing the fundamental methods for rendition of reality by experimental media and new technologies, and thanks to interdisciplinary activities and field experiences, students have the opportunity to confront the contemporary production context, experiencing new creative and operational models which will support them in the development of a sound authorial, professional project figure.</p> <p><br /><strong>FIRST YEAR</strong></p> <p>Introduces students to the contemporary audio-visual and multi-media field and provide them with instruments for a sound understanding of media, through studies in multimedia design, creative writing, audio-visual languages and techniques, and digital cultures, in the various scientific, critical, and artistic application fields.</p> <p>Through workshop experiences and theoretical lectures, students have the opportunity to deal with audio-visual and multi-media projects, to acquire a sound mastery of methodologies and media languages and to start developing an original and experimental thinking, together with an inclusive and cross-platform approach.</p> <p><br /><strong>SECOND YEAR</strong></p> <p>Provides students with the possibility of specialising in the field of documentary or creative coding through advanced studies in multimedia project, digital tools for arts, project culture, aesthetics of new media.</p> <p>Exploring the creative opportunities offered by traditional and experimental media and by the contemporary technologies, as well as going through first-hand experience of audio-visual, interactive, and multi-media projects, students gain an aware methodological approach to successfully manage the multiple expressive variables and technical skills required.</p> <p>A series of cross-disciplinary didactic activities and several project experiences led by highly skilled, international professionals enable students to acquire knowledge and skills suitable for professional career.</p>

Luca Poncellini
<p>Luca Poncellini is an architect and a designer with a PhD in the History of Architecture and City Planning. As a partner in the architecture office Cliostraat until 2009, he has curated projects and has lectured in Italy and in several countries throughout the world. His works have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, at the Van Alen Institute in New York, at ETH in Z&uuml;rich, at MAGA in Gallarate and at Triennale Milano. In 2008 he co-curated the retrospective exhibition Laszlo Hudec, in collaboration with the Hungarian Consulate in Shanghai. Since 2013 he has been the Course Leader of the MA in Interior Design. Between 2015 and 2019 directed the research lab and the project C-Park. Since 2019 he has been Design and Applied Arts Department Head.</p>

<p>After graduating in Architecture at the University of Florence, Michele Aquila becomes partner and project leader of Interaction Design Lab Srl, where he coordinates service and interaction design projects for clients in the public and private sector. From 2009 to 2010 he began his collaboration with NABA first as coordinator of the BA in Design and then as a lecturer. In 2011 he founded U10, a studio specializing in online publishing and new media. He later co-founded Tweetbook, an award-winning online service for publishing ebooks based on Twitter conversations. He has taught and held workshops in Italian and international institutions (Royal College of Arts, VCUarts Qatar, Kent State University Florence, Abadir) and was responsible for the programme of the Master in Interaction Design and of the Master in Service Design of Domus Academy from 2016 to 2022.</p>
