P+ARTS: Partnership for Artistic Research in Technology and Sustainability

P+ARTS promotes excellence in artistic research in Italy by supporting young talents through an innovative ecosystem aligned with the global challenges of our time, such as the ecological transition and digital transformation. This interdisciplinary project encompasses art, technology, and sustainability, involving some of the most prestigious AFAM (Higher Artistic, Musical, and Coreutic Education) institutions and public universities.

01 - Project Goals
P+ARTS is structured around three unique objectives within the Italian artistic landscape:

  • Promotion of artistic research (AR) to establish a dedicated national network inspired by international best practices, developing a strong academic culture of AR and supporting a national PhD program in artistic research.
  • Innovation in the arts and culture to encourage original creative practices aligned with the European Green Deal, through the internationalization of Italian art, and the creation of workshops, exhibitions, and events aimed at technological and environmental transformation, in collaboration with foreign institutions.
  • Redefining the role of the artist in society as an agent of change, capable of influencing social, cultural, and environmental debates through the conception of a Master’s program for artist-researchers, focused on green transition, digital practices, and social sustainability.

02 - Expected Outcomes
The P+ARTS project aims to achieve concrete and measurable results, including:

  • Development of advanced skills by involving teachers, students, and stakeholders in conferences, exchange programs (such as Erasmus+ KA1), and curriculum integration on both a national and international scale.
  • Support for research through the allocation of funds for AR, including scholarships, grants, and fellowships to encourage the digitization of works and the inclusion of artists in academic and practical research projects.
  • Ethical guidelines for research that ensure inclusivity in AR, respecting ethical principles of intellectual property and responsible technologies.
  • An AFAM publishing platform for the dissemination of AR, through an editorial plan that combines theory with artistic creation, facilitating dialogue and the international promotion of AR.
  • Creation of a digital repository as a dynamic space dedicated to artistic production and research, including audiovisual, sound, and multimedia materials, expanding traditional formats to offer an innovative vision of art.

03 - Project Phases
The project is divided into three main phases:

  • Building the AFAM Innovation Ecosystem, which networks artists, researchers, and technologists to foster the interaction between art and technology, allowing the development of new research methodologies and artistic production in response to contemporary challenges.
  • Pilot Actions involving all artistic sectors, from visual arts to music, from dance to design, through a series of pilot projects identified by the consortium, developing new artistic and research practices initiated in the previous phase.
  • Long-term projects to consolidate the results achieved, including the structuring of PhD and Master’s programmes for the training of artist-researchers, as well as the creation of an Investment Board to ensure the future sustainability of artistic production in Italy.
