ARS - Augmented Reality multi-user virtual Spaces is a two-year research project, developed from 2022 to 2024 by NABA Milano and SAE Institute Belgrade within the framework of the Partnerships in vocational education and training program promoted and supported by the Erasmus+ system. ARS has investigated and experimented with the potential of Virtual Production through the hybridization of physical and digital elements, serving distance learning paths based on the "learning by doing" methodology.
In recent years, in fields such as cinema, architectural design, and design, the use of augmented reality has proven to be a true cognitive world. The ARS project has led NABA to the awareness of the need for adequate training for teachers and students towards an effective transition to digital education, in order to design virtual spaces where everyone, online, is able to physically interact with the surrounding environment. This type of experience not only improves the very idea of creative practice, expanding the possibilities of experimentation between the real and the virtual, but also allows the active participation of all those who, for physical, social, political, or geographical reasons, do not have access to classrooms or laboratories.
The ARS project has positioned itself in this territory of investigation and experimentation with several purposes: to increase the competence of NABA and SAE teachers towards the digital shift, to integrate new work protocols into the educational programs of courses in Media Design, New Technologies, Cinema, Design, and Virtual Production in order to offer innovative learning opportunities and improve the integration of students into the job market, and to contribute to the construction of the international discourse on issues related to digital culture from a local perspective.
