The collections of the MA in Fashion Design students on the runaway of the July 2022 edition of Rome Fashion Week, promoted by Altaroma, one of the main events dedicated to emerging Made in Italy fashion.
The runway show "Don't Ask Me Why - NABA MA in Fashion Design” presented the outfits realised within A.A. 2021/22, on Wednesday, July 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ex-Caserma Guido Reni. It was preceded by the screening of a video about the creations designed by the students of the MA in Fashion and Textile Design of A.Y. 2020/21. The invitation-only event also be streamed on the digitalrunway.altaroma.it digital platform, where it is still available.

NABA and Altaroma: the runaway and the video

Ten designers from the MA in Fashion Design had the opportunity to present their work to an audience of journalists and professionals in the sector: a selection of unique and original looks completely designed and made in NABA. Before the collections appear on the catwalk, the "DON'T ASK ME WHY" video, which lends its name to the entire event that has the artistic direction of Paolo Bazzani (Art Director and NABA professor), was screened presenting a selection of projects, novel ideas inspired by observations of the world, created by the students of the MA in Fashion and Textile Design of A.Y. 2020/21 (the same MA evolved in the following academic year in two separate MA programmes: one in Fashion Design and another one in Textile Design).

The selection of images in the video was curated by Nicoletta Morozzi, NABA Fashion Design Advisor, while the video with related animations was created by S.C. Artroom, a studio that has been working in all aspects of the creative field since 1975. This opportunity with great visibility also makes it possible to present collections that were created during the pandemic period.

The show ended with the creations designed in a special project that took place during the academic year with PROMPERÙ Italia (Peruvian Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism of Peru in Italy) which aims to promote Alpaca yarn as a high-end fiber and bearer of the values of eco-sustainability, tradition and culture of the Peruvian territory.

The soundtrack of the event was created and performed specifically for the occasion by the Saint Louis College of Music: the original music is, for the electronic composition, by the academic students of the Electronic Music Department, while the students of the Two-year specialisation courses of Composition and Applied Music conducted live the tracks they have composed and orchestrated, that will be performed by an ensemble made up of 10 musicians.

When a collection is presented, everyone tries to trace its source of inspiration. In reality, shapes, colors and materials are the natural or forced result of a set of conceptual, sensorial or affective choices that intertwine like the threads of a new fabric, especially when the environment in which the collection is born is a school where market or production conditions do not oblige one to make forced choices. "Don't Ask Me Why" revolves around the concept that there is no reason or, at least, no explicit and univocal reason. The explanation can sometimes contain an entire lifetime or have no foundation, but a sudden outburst of emotion. The important thing is that students recognise themselves in their stories, ready to write a new chapter or move on to a new narrative.
