NABA announces the winners of the NABA Design Award 2024, now in its sixth edition, with the award ceremony held on the evening of June 12 at Triennale Milano. The competition, conceived by Claudio Larcher (NABA Design Area Leader), aims to recognise and celebrate the works of students from the BA in Design and the MAs in Product and Service Design, Interior Design, and Social Design in an event open to the public, which was also streamed live on NABA's YouTube channel. The ceremony was hosted by Claudio Larcher himself, along with Valentina Dalla Costa (NABA Design Area Masters of Arts Course Leader) and Germana De Michelis (NABA Bachelor of Arts in Design Course Leader at the Milan campus).
NABA Design Award 2024: special Prizes, new additions, and the jury
The NABA Design Award 2024, in addition to the Best Project of the Year 2024, the "Italo Rota" Jury Award - dedicated to the beloved NABA Scientific Advisor - and the "Claudio Moderini" Special Mention, in honour of the recently deceased designer and lecturer, introduced a new award for the Urban Design Project, linked to the new Academic Master in New Urban Design joining the prizes in other categories.
The winners in each category were selected by a jury composed of professionals and journalists from the design world, including Silvia Cafora (Interior Designer), Patrizia Piccinini (AD Italia Journalist), Vittorio Venezia (Designer), as well as NABA representatives Claudio Larcher, Valentina Dalla Costa, Germana De Michelis, and Luca Poncellini (NABA Design and Applied Arts Department Head).
NABA Design Award 2024: Awarded Prizes
Among the awards presented during the ceremony, the Best Project of the Year 2024 was given to "Come a casa" by Francesca Casalegno, an example of how design and love can improve the lives of the homeless by creating a homely environment through workshops that celebrate diversity, companies that offer a sense of belonging, and a platform for companies to support social reintegration actively.
The "Italo Rota" Jury Award, aimed at valuing the design approach of research, was awarded to "Case Vacanza per Insetti" (Holiday house for insects) by Luca Capriccioni and Manuji Colucci, a project that promotes biodiversity: an ecosystem of insects using mini-homes made in clay, a green habitat and a protected environment that adds an element of curiosity to the landscape, without undermining the natural balance of the ecosystem.
The “Claudio Moderini” Special Mention prize was won by "ATIPIKIT - UNKNOWN URBAN LIFE" by Micol Buffo, Maria Maina, and Miriam Rossi. This project focuses on co-design and the issues related to people’s involvement in this process, proposing a kit structured in various steps.

NABA Design Award 2024: partnerships, award creation, and the catalogue featuring the best students’ works
The main partner of this edition of the NABA Design Award is FREITAG, which honoured the winners with a selection of prizes. The trophy received by the winner of each category was designed by Claudio Larcher and crafted within the Design Area laboratories under the supervision of Carmelo Zocco (Design Laboratory Manager), using recycled wood, in line with the Academy's commitment to sustainability and circular design.
Also, this year, the best works resulting from the students' creativity are collected in a catalogue whose graphic design is realised by Atto, while the visual identity of the 2024 edition of the NABA Design Award was developed by Manal Abu Monassar (NABA faculty).
