NABA is a partner in “CRITICAL FASHION: Come insegnarla? Perché comprarla?”, a program of meetings, presentations, debates, workshops, and on-site and online exhibition interventions conducted in English, taking place from June 5 to 7 and featuring curators, designers, artists, academics, and researchers in the field of experimental fashion. Curated by Dobrila Denegri (NABA faculty), the conference is organised in collaboration with MACRO – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma and will be held in the Museum Auditorium (Via Nizza 138, Rome).

NABA participates in “CRITICAL FASHION: Come insegnarla? Perché comprarla?”: the focus of the conference

What is “critical fashion”? How can we define the experiments and interactions that combine fashion, art, and other creative disciplines?

With this unique series of conversations, meetings, and conferences, the event “CRITICAL FASHION: Come insegnarla? Perché comprarla?” opens a debate on the future of fashion from various perspectives. Starting from the transformations occurring in fashion education, the conference will delve into curatorial and artistic experiences to explore the potential for expanding interaction between academia, the art sector, and the fashion industry. This collective conversation aims to highlight experimental and conceptual practices capable of producing critical content that positions fashion prominently within the contemporary cultural landscape.

The debate features diverse internationally active personalities, including curators, designers, artists, researchers, and academics engaged with “critical fashion” phenomena. Among the prominent names in the lineup, which includes some of the most interesting voices of the moment, are: Matteo Augello, fashion theorist and NABA lecturer; Linda Loppa, one of the most influential voices in fashion education; Iris Ruisch and José Teunissen, whose curatorial work is distinguished by the newly inaugurated biennial of sustainable and inclusive fashion in Arnhem; Yuima Nakazato, one of the most innovative fashion designers today; and Jeppe Ugelvig, curator and cultural critic.

NABA participates in “CRITICAL FASHION: Come insegnarla? Perché comprarla?”: Academy contributions

Among the contributions from NABA at the conference, on June 6 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, there will be a session titled “Brainstorming e conversazioni sul futuro dell'educazione di moda” held on the rooftop of the Auditorium. This invite-only session will feature Diego Manfreda (Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design Course Leader at NABA’s Rome campus) in conversation with Linda Loppa (founding curator, “Anarchive”, Polimoda, Florence) and Ricarda Bigolin (Associate Dean of Fashion and Textiles Design at RMIT University, Melbourne), among others.

On June 7, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the MACRO Auditorium, there will be a public performance lecture by Matteo Augello titled “Come fare la storia: vanità e piacere nella ricerca sulla moda Auditorium.”
