The advanced construction of interior spaces and objects is necessarily preceded by one of the most critical project design phases – graphic concept visualisation. A designed ambient decor or product must be accurately modelled in order to correct and finalise the design itself. The 3D Modelling Specialist combines artistic skills with advanced technical expertise to render concepts as realistic three-dimensional representations.
The 3D Modelling Specialist is tasked with creating detailed three-dimensional models of interiors, furniture or other products. These virtual renderings must accurately interpret design concepts in order to realistically represent a project outcome. In interior design, visualisations can comprise a spectrum of details such as furniture, furnishings, lighting and finishes, enabling the experimentation of various layouts and styles. Regarding products, software tools provide a way to assess different solutions, such as textures or alternative materials. These models are created to enable customers and the design team to visualise the final appearance of the work as realistically as possible.
The 3D Modelling Specialist has a major responsibility in the design flow and plays a pivotal role within the creative team. The role requires specific technical skills, as well as considerable creativity and a propensity for teamwork.
Effective communication abilities to share ideas with designers and clients.
To acquire the aforementioned skills, you need training, experience and continuing education. NABA offers a range of options to explore the world of Interior and Product Design in depth. Namely, having acquired the basics of design during the Three-year degree programme, graduates may enrol in the Two-year Specialisation Programme in Interior Design (link) and the Two-year Specialisation Programme in Product and Service Design (link). The former imparts the skills to master modelling and rendering techniques applied to interior spaces. The goals of the latter include the ability to create three-dimensional representations of objects and their spatial setting.
