An overview of the film editor's perspective focusing on the relationship between text and market needs: Fabrizio Cristallo (Head of Development Groenlandia/Ascent Film) tells his experience to the students of the Media Design and New Technologies Area. The masterclass "Twenty reasons not to write your screenplay" deals with some relevant issues challenging those who want to work in the film industry. The event will take place in Room 0.01 of the Rome campus on Monday, June 6, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. The live streaming will be available on Zoom.

The NABA Academic Master and "Twenty reasons not to write your screenplay"

Thanks to new didactic programmes, NABA pays growing attention to the cinema and TV industry. The Academic Master in Screenwriting for Series* - starting at the Rome campus in October 2022 - is just an example of it. The programme aims to train professional figures in the field of audio-visual screenwriting, who are capable of intercepting themes and narratives of a constantly evolving world for the development of cinematographic or serial projects of national and international relevance.

The Academy's talks dedicated to the big and small screen fall within the same scope. NABA already hosted Kevin Hudson (Digital Asset Specialist at Walt Disney Animation Studios), directors Giuseppe Tornatore and Paolo Genovese and the association Women in Film, Television and Media Italia. Now, it is Fabrizio Cristallo’s turn, Head of Development and Development Producer for Groenlandia Group and Ascent Film. Over the years, he has supervised and collaborated on projects for television and cinema. He also worked as Script Consultant for Eagle Pictures, Teodora Film and other distributors. Furthermore, he is a former script tutor for the Scuola di scrittura Omero and lecturer for Anica Academy. Now, he brings his expertise to NABA.

The masterclass "Twenty reasons not to write your screenplay" analyses the editor's point of view. It is about elaborating dramaturgically autonomous, relevant and capable of talking with the audience projects. The lecture will explore the relationship between the text, production and distribution issues, and the one between project and cultural perspective. It warns and suggests strategies and reasoning to identify and enhance strong ideas, go through the development and production phases, and avoid flaws during the creative process.
