NABA announces "POP UP. Riflessioni su progetti e interventi di design temporaneo nel contesto urbano”, the talk on July 8 at 6:00 PM set against the backdrop of the Festival de Les Cabanes and conceived in collaboration with Accademia di Francia a Roma - Villa Medici (Viale Trinità dei Monti 1), the location that will host it. Designed to present four project experiences with a strong civic impact, "POP UP" was created to propose a reflection on the transformation of public spaces in cities and to understand how social design strategies can be crucial for developing a sustainable educational curriculum for new generations of designers.

The public talk will feature contributions from Claudio Larcher (NABA Design Area Leader), Daniele Mancini (BA in Design Course Leader - Rome), Claudia Campone (CEO and founder of Thirtyone Design + Management), and Sante Simone (architect and researcher, co-founder of Ikonica Studio).

"POP UP," the NABA talk in collaboration with the Accademia di Francia a Roma – Villa Medici: the projects presented

At "POP UP," Claudio Larcher will present "Pop! Abitare, voce del verbo Popolare," a magazine dedicated to public housing residents in the Municipality of Milan, printed in over 30,000 copies. This project, promoted by MM Spa, and born with the aim of involving students, residents, and community associations in social activities that enhance and give visibility to the exchange of experiences and the collection of stories, desires, and visions, was selected for the 2022 edition of the ADI Design Index.

Daniele Mancini will discuss the “Don Sardelli Garden” project, a civic rite for creating an aromatic herb garden. Dedicated to the memory of Don Roberto Sardelli, it was designed to stimulate civic participation in the redevelopment of neglected urban areas and combat educational poverty and school dropout rates.

The third project, presented by Claudia Campone, is “Posthome”: a space conceived during the 2020 pandemic, arising from a theoretical and applied reflection on housing themes. Still existing in Città Studi in Milan, from 2020 to 2022 it served as an immersive showroom and space open to workshops, talks, and meetings that engaged the local area, academia, and social world.

Finally, Sante Simone will discuss "SKOLA," a temporary installation created by the residents of the Ostiense district, which became a manifesto for an educational community and, above all, a place of meeting and socialisation to generate a sense of belonging and collaboration essential for more livable and inclusive cities.

The launch of the new BA in Design at the NABA Campus in Rome

The initiative is part of the activities of NABA Campus in Rome, aimed at introducing the new BA in Design, available from the A.Y. 2024/25. At the Rome Campus, the BA will offer specialisations in Interior Design, born to deepen the design perspective and extend the students' expertise in an environmental dimension aimed to summarise scenographic and architectural aspects and social and cultural values, and in Product and Innovation Design which aims to aid students to develop their own design language in line with the varied visions of aesthetics and society, beginning with the history of international design and focusing in particular on the production of innovations through the use of technologies, techniques and new materials.
