The narrative power of clothes and costumes, the fashion heritage and its influence on contemporary designers: are the core topics of "Racconti di moda, costumi e archivi". The talk series by MA in Fashion and Costume Design of the NABA Rome campus is moderated by Clara Tosi Pamphili (historian, applied arts critic, and NABA lecturer) and will host national and international professionals. On April 17, Olivier Saillard (fashion historian and curator, NABA lecturer) and Luigi Piccolo (director - Sartoria Farani) will meet the audience at the Academy of France in Rome - Villa Medici. That free initiative will anticipate two workshops dedicated to NABA students.

From the talks to workshops on the history of costume and fashion

"Racconti di moda, costumi e archivi" opened with a talk by Matteo Augello (fashion historian, lecturer at Regent's University London and London College of Fashion, visiting professor NABA) in conversation with Vittoria C. Caratozzolo (costume history scholar, NABA lecturer) on March 28. Here the focus was the management, display and curation of Italian fashion heritage. During the next event with Olivier Saillard, the audience will face some reflections on the modification of bodies, and mannequins, in various historical eras. It will be an opportunity to deepen the study of silhouettes and show how they have influenced the work of designers over time.

In the days after, from 18 to April 20, the MA in Fashion and Costume Design students will take part in a workshop at the NABA Rome campus. Olivier Saillard and Luigi Piccolo will introduce the study of theatrical and film haute couture costumes. Then, they will explore those changes that have influenced the preparation of archive garments for major exhibitions. Thanks to the collaboration with the Fondation Azzedine Alaïa, this didactic experience will move to Paris from May 8 to 11. In the foundation archives, Academy students will analyse the transformations of the silhouette through the ages. They will study the archives in order to rethink fashion and look at contemporary design from a different point of view.
