NABA presents the exhibition “ALIEN”, opening in Milan at ASSAB ONE (Via Privata Assab, 1) on July 4 at 6:00 PM and running until July 6. Intended to present the works created by students of the Academic Master in Photography and Visual Design at the NABA Milan Campus, this exhibition represents the culmination of a year-long journey in which the students explored and interpreted the theme of otherness, resulting in 14 projects developed under the guidance of their lecturers.

“ALIEN”, the NABA photography exhibition: the concept

Curated by Luca Andreoni (NABA lecturer) and Francesco Zanot (Academic Master in Photography and Visual Design Course Advisor Leader), the exhibition stems from observing a present marked by rapid changes and increasing tensions, gathering a series of reflections on the dynamics that govern our relationship with the unknown. From science fiction to interpersonal relationships, war to viruses, the animal kingdom to the unconscious, the concept of the “alien” can be extended in every direction. Through a multifaceted journey, “ALIEN” develops a free and varied analysis of everything that can be considered foreign in contemporary society and the ways in which it is approached. By deconstructing the main prejudices with which diversity is confronted, it composes a vast collective portrait of the alien that surrounds us, identifying in-depth exploration and research as essential tools for engaging with it.

The works presented explore the proposed theme in social contexts, fiction, as a concrete element, and as an abstract form, including in the analysis not only social relationships but also the way the alien has been represented in art, cinema, and literature. It also addresses its presence in psychology, the environment, popular culture, history, and ecology. The breadth of the theme is also reflected in the various ways in which the authors have developed their projects, exploiting the numerous solutions offered by the photographic medium today, from documenting reality to reconstructing it, from creating new images to recycling existing ones.
