What is the possible today? Doing ecology means, above all, facing up to this question. "(Im)possible Ecologies" is an exhibition project of NABA Visual Arts Area confronting this issue. The exhibition will take place from June 20 to 26, at the Botanic Garden of Rome and Polo Museale Sapienza, in Largo Cristina di Svezia, 23 A - 24. Here the audience can find the works of art by Milan and Rome campus students of the BA in Painting and Visual Arts, and those of the students of the MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies, starting on the Rome campus* as well from October 2022.

On June 20 at 5:30 PM, there will be a Seminar by MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies students. They will introduce the programme research themes, including their experience curating the "(Im)possible Ecologies" exhibition project. At 7:00 PM, the opening of the art exhibition in Rome will take place, available with mandatory booking, bringing together, for the first time ever, the works by students of the Department of Visual Arts from both campus.

The exhibition at the Botanic Garden of Rome and Polo Museale Sapienza

The relationship between ecologies (environmental, social and psychic), artistic practices and curatorial studies has been one of the central elements of the pedagogic processes developed by NABA's Visual Arts Department. This multiplicity of approaches also inspired "(Im)possible Ecologies". Nomadism, myths and metamorphosis, eco-feminism, colonial memories and a particular call for deceleration are some of the focal themes of political ecology addressed by students-artists. The exhibition project can also rely on a suggestive location. The Botanic Garden of Rome and Polo Museale Sapienza is a living museum, a place for the protection of biodiversity, but also the symbol of Italy as a nation state with a colonial past. It presents itself as the privileged setting in which to address such questions about the horizons of the possible.
