NABA is glad to announce its participation to Open House Roma, the annual event that in a single weekend allows the free access to hundreds of buildings in the capital, notable for their architectural characteristics.
On October 2nd, from 11 am to 6 pm, the Academy will open its campus doors, located between the gasometers and the Centrale Montemartini, historical evidence of the technological development of the capital in the early 20th Century, between the banks of the Tiber and the Garbatella district. NABA thus becomes a space to tell the many places and realities of the Roman neighbourhood and to undertake an unprecedented visual journey through the images, sounds and visions developed by NABA students, guided by their lecturers in an exploration and reinterpretation of urban contexts through the languages of contemporaneity.

The students of Communication and Graphic Design Area, guided by Area Leader Patrizia Moschella, will present within the campus: “Breath Again” created in the Creative Lab of the BA in Graphic Design e Arti Direction, under the supervision of lecturers Antonio Motti and Laura Bottai by the students of the third year, that will explain how the project for TIMVISION Floating Theatre Summer Fest 2021’s visual identity was born; “Sovrascritture*” realised by the students of the first year of the same BA during the first lockdown, under the supervision of lecturer Silvana Amato; and “WE CONVERT. From Ideas To Helpful Things” a concrete design exhibition born to convert what it is into something wished, curated by the students of the second year of the BA with the supervision of Advisor Leader Assunta Squitieri.
Fashion Design Area, under the supervision of Area Leader Colomba Leddi, will showcase “Planet Dresses - The NABA Campus Fashion View 2021”, the video reportage of the live performance that took place on June 29th within the Academy’s campus in Milan, presenting the collections of the students of the third year of the BA in Fashion Design, in a real fashion slow show. 6 fashion videos, created to represent six chapters of an urban history that develops around NABA and the scenario of the Ostiense district will also be screened. The concepts and collections of each of the videos were created by the students of the BA in Fashion Design, coordinated by lecturer Silvia Morani, while the realisation was curated by the students of the BA in Media Design and Multimedia Arts. The garments presented in the videos, created in the Textile course of lecturer Diego Manfreda, will also be exhibited on campus, together with the projects carried out as part of the Textile course lecturer Denise Bonapace.
Media Design and News Technologies Area will present the creations of the students of its BA in Media Design and Multimedia Arts, under the guidance of Area Leader Vincenzo Cuccia: “Concinnità”, developed in collaboration with Università degli Studi Roma Tre and presented within the University section. Resiliency agencies of the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale at the Italian pavillion; the audio documentary "Voci di Garbatella" realised under the supervision of lecturer Rodolfo Sacchettini; the short films "Lungotevere” and “Pietra”, created under the supervision of Area Leader Francesca Staash; the short documentary "Il Guardiano", with the supervision of lecturer Giovanni Giommi.
Lastly, the students of Visual Arts Area will propose a journey made up of images, objects and signs, to frame the city of Rome through their gaze. The very idea of the metropolis that the Eternal City puts in crisis will manifest itself in the spaces of the campus, through the exploration of streets, buildings, uncultivated nature and ruins that are defined in a new idea of urban landscape where the vegetation and the unconscious continue to coexist with the built and the planned.
It will also be possible to visit the Academy’s building, an example of the renovation of industrial architecture.
